GrantsDAO Quarterly Update: Q1 2023

The grants program was funded with 2M USD in PERP that is allocated to funding protocols building on Perpetual Protocol. This program started in August 2021 and is running successfully to this day.

We are constantly on the lookout for amazing projects that want to grow the Perp ecosystem, including trading infrastructure, LP’ing and market-making research, structured products, vaults, etc. We welcome all crazy ideas that we’d never have thought of!

Update on Current Grantees 🎯

Teahouse

Teahouse launched the Perpetual Protocol LP strategy vault in January 2023 and it has been consistently profitable. So far, it has rewarded its investors with over 12% APR and attracted $93k in AUM.

Teahouse’s Perpetual Protocol LP Strategy uses various inputs including volatility to dynamically adjust the LP ranges and hedge positions to maximise trading fees earned while keeping IL contained. This results in a strategy that is market-proof, and can perform well even in bearish markets, as long as there are still trades being made.

Besides the normal trading fees received, this strategy also profits from the $OP and $PERP rewards from Perp. Bolstering their already-impressive APY, these weekly rewards are immediately sold into $USDC upon receipt and put back into the fund for distribution to the ShareToken holders.

TradingView Connector

A free and noncustodial tool built by Ibuki is now available, allowing you to integrate TradingView alerts and execute automated trading strategies with perpetual futures. The software is open source, and this tool runs on the users’ system (rather than on a centralized platform). This requires that users run their bot, for which we recommend using a cloud service provider.

Users interested in the TradingView alert connector can check out the codebase and accompanying docs. Ibuki has also created an online video tutorial on how to use the tool and hosted a live tutorial in our Discord server (which can be viewed from our YouTube page).

Rust CLI

The Perp toolkit has been expanded with the addition of a Rust CLI for Perp, built by grantee Brendan Wenzel.

This tool is to provide a simple, fast and efficient way to interact with Perpetual Protocol contracts from your terminal. As a lightweight interface, it provides traders and makers with most of the tools you can find on the website.

Please take advantage of GitHub's issues tab if this tool isn't working as expected in any way.

PerpSim

To recap PerpSim, this tool was built by the Component Finance team which evaluates how a maker’s liquidity position may perform in the future, as well as how it would have fared in the past.

The Component team have very exciting updates to this maker tool including:

  • Current Positions View: Users can view and edit all of their positions in one place. This feature comes as a response to some user feedback on Perp’s original UI lacking this feature. Basic statistics on each of their positions like in/out of range, current IL, current PnL, etc. can be viewed.
  • Edit Liquidity (Add and Remove): PerpSim is no longer just a backtesting tool! Users can add or remove liquidity and completely manage all their positions.

  • User-defined time frame: For backtesting or simulating their positions, users can define their period ranging from 5 days to 6 months. This can be useful if, for example, the user wants to ignore an extreme event that may have affected an asset's performance (most recently the FTX catastrophe) when thinking about an asset's volatility.

  • Predictive Metrics: We saved the best for last. PerpSim added predictive metrics that use Brownian motion, where the volatility and drift terms associated with the market/pool determine a likely set of outcomes for the asset’s price over a period of time.

PartyFinance

PartyFinance recently deployed on Optimism and they will be building on top of Perp soon.

An integration of Perp in PartyFinance would allow users to trade perpetual contracts using their party funds, which would be stored in Perp’s Vault. Users would also be able to view their Perp positions and balances in their PartyFinance account, giving them a comprehensive view of their decentralized trading activity.
